It took me 3 tries to get CAI correct. CIA? CEL? oh CAI. I put an aftermarket intake on my Jetta VR6 12 valve when I first got it. The intake caused intermittent knock.

Conversely, people who claim an in take upgrade does nothing has never seen a 90s Mopar intake............

90* turn off the intake manifold, followed by a 45*, followed by convoluted piping, into an airbox sitting directly above the rear exhaust manifold, in which it does a 180* turn, leading back through convoluted tubing, which draws through the ECU.

Just replacing this crap with a shorty intake positioned behind the battery, something like this:

Nets a noticeable improvement in response and mid-high rpm power. Throw on a better flowing exhaust and some mild port work and they come alive like you wouldn’t believe.

I thought about doing this to my dad’s 5.9 liter in his pick-up. It’s almost as idiotic as the air filter in my Focus. I have noticed a 2+/- MPG gain since I swapped my air filter to a cone filter. I don’t know if it makes any more power though.
